Semester break is looming near and we are continuing to keep up our regular work while doing some fun holiday activities. Next week we are planning to end the semester with a Winter Mug Exchange party with our friends in Mrs. Scheppelmann's class. Please see the note in your child's backpack for information about that. In addition to the mug exchange, we will also be doing some other fun holiday themed crafts and activities!
Reading
We have been making good progress on our reading skills. Kindergarten will continue working on letter name and sound skills, letter sorts, and concept sorts. 1st graders will be continuing on using letter sound skills in different ways and using our comprehension skills!
Math
We have finished our more/less and greater than/less than unit and are starting to work on time. We are working on knowing that time is the same everyday and 1st grade will begin working on telling time. We will learn about the minute hand(Big brother) and the hour hand(little brother). We will learn about activities that take place during certain times of the day as well. In January we will review time and then begin working on addition. We will be using our skills of "putting together" to figure out that the number gets bigger and we have more.
Special Activities
During the month of January, we will celebrate the start of a new calendar year, Grace E. Stewart's birthday, and Kansas day!
Important Dates
12/14-Winter Mug Brought to Class
12/20-Sing Along Assembly(9:00am)
12/21-1/7 NO SCHOOL
1/8-Classes Resume
1/14-Stewart Stampede
1/18-Grace E. Stewart's Birthday

We have had a wonderful 1st semester and I hope you and your family enjoy the coming weeks! Happy Holidays!
